 헤롯궁전(Machaerus)

마태복음 14:6~8

마침 헤롯의 생일이 되어 헤로디아의 딸이 연석 가운데서 춤을 추어 헤롯을 기쁘게 하니

헤롯이 맹세로 그에게 무엇이든지 달라는 대로 주겠다고 약속하거늘

그가 제 어머니의 시킴을 듣고 이르되 세례 요한의 머리를 소반에 얹어 여기서 내게 주소서 하니

On Herod's birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much

that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.

Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.“

알렉산더 얀네우스(103-76 B.C.)에 의하여 세워진 마케루스(Machaerus) 궁전 지역이다. 헤롯 대왕에 의하여 그의 여름 궁전으로 재건되었다. 그의 아들 헤롯 안디바가 세례 요한을 옥에 가두고 후에 그의 머리를 자른 곳이다. 가슴 아픈 장소이다.
